over and out! AT 19:29 Hrs.
At times I used to curse him for not playing well, at times I used to blame him for India's defeat. Once I scored 8/20 in my unit test, I blamed him. I told myself that if he would have had won us last night I could have scored better in my test. He made us proud . He made everyone think about bigger dreams. He made me fascinate about the game ,The jersey, The man and those moments. This happens once in generation that someone becomes representative of whole generation , they transcends the boundaries of their work , they epitomizes the limitless possibilities of human life. they become what we call it in cliche way "Heroes of Society".
Dear Dhoni ,
With full aware mind and body I can say that you are biggest influence in my life. From being a childhood hero to being a true gentleman . You not only made me fall in love with this game but you also taught me how to respond in situations where nothing is in your control . Your calm posture on the field used to feel like assurance that there is possibility , yes there is some chance that we could turn the table and you did it, not once but hundred of times .
You have witnessed hundreds of breathtaking moments, standing in middle of everything .Those beat breaking chants, sweating players, those high resolution cameras which are capable of capturing your every blink but expression on your face never changed. Neither you became furious after loss nor you became euphoric when you led your team to victory not only you maintained ethos of the game but you also made calmness and peace an exciting state of mind.
I still remember those vivid memories of world cup 2011. Those last 4-5 overs. When whole country was on its feet, watching you. The 27 old dream of bringing back world cup was on horizon. The most crucial part was maintaining the scorecard in front of "Malinga",the death yorker specialist. An unorthodox way of bowling with tilted hand and curly hairs. He was surely one of the best bowler in those times when it came to final overs showdown. Even I was fearful that if this man gets two player then everything is over . In my conscience I was even clear that if anyhow you hit this man then the match will be ours and same did happen. Malinga went for yorker and you picked it up early and directed it towards deep square. what more I remember from that night is that within those last 1 hour actually I went for pee for more than 5 times, I was just not able to hold it. and last thing is that six !
As you say everyone has part to play in this life. You did yours with full integrity and honesty. now baton is up to next generation and they must ensure that those values should reach on another heights.
I knew that this day would come but still deep inside something does not feel right, it is like my childhood is over. the strongest link which used to bind everyone of us will not be seen on grounds. It is like becoming a man. It's not just me there are millions literally millions who are feeling the same. now we will have to live the reality whenever there will be scenario like 20 balls 60 runs, 30 balls 90 runs. there is no Dhoni!
Being a fan deprives you of judging your hero. Neither you see any wrongs in him nor you want others to see their wrongs .You are emotionally invested in him and for me Mahendra Pansingh Dhoni is that hero. He came very silently, fought very hard, conquered hearts of billion and now went silently.
Thank you for your wrongs and rights, Thank you for your commitment, Thank you for your passion, Thank you for those silent postures, Those still eyes, that style of removing one keeping glove on crucial moments. Thank you for those last seconds wins and losses. Thank you for not being perfect but for being real. Thank you for being influencer without becoming slave of social media. Your presence on ground always meant something to me. With the promise of creating ones own path I shall say ,
Good bye Captain Cool....
